Mumbles Coffee is maybe… maybe… the best coffee in Swansea. The main cafe and the separate booth on Newton Road is always so busy. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the height of summer with all the tourists or it’s pouring down in November – there will be a queue for coffee. But locals know about the third, more hidden, quieter site in the Mumbles – Microlot Coffee.

It’s only a small shop, with a few seats inside and outside, but it’s open longer than the booth in the arcade and is a favourite of the locals. In fact, I’ve seen a famous Swansea/mumbles local in there a few times…

The staff are amazing and really know their coffee – they take it seriously. I go there a lot, and it’s never been burned (which you just can’t say for most places) and they’ve never given me the wrong kind of milk (which is a bugbear of mine and happens too often – allergies can be serious).

So where is this tiny hidden gem? 28 Dunns Ln, Mumbles, Swansea SA3 4AA. If you’re on Newton Road (the main shopping street in Mumbles), walk up to Marks and Spencers and go down that lane to the side of it. On the other side, you’ll find Microlot Coffee on the corner.

There’s not a huge offering – all the coffee of course, including ice-coffee all year round (which they’ve never judged me for – even when it’s been snowy). There’s also usually some sweet and savoury pastries available, but there’s a bigger selection in the main cafe.

Make sure you pick up a Mumbles Coffee loyalty card, as you get a stamp each time you buy a coffee, at any of the three sites, and then your tenth one is free.
