Stick ‘Best restaurant in Swansea’ into Google you’ll see that right at the top of all the ‘best eats’ lists, isn’t a fancy eatery with swanky interiors and a £200 tasting menu – it’s a trailer, in a park in Mumbles that sells incredible seafood – the Gower Seafood Hut.
So is the Gower Seafood Hut the best ‘restaurant’ in Swansea? I’m going to say no (I don’t think they’d even describe themselves as a restaurant to be honest) but is it the best food in Swansea? Possibly – it’s up there, BUT without a doubt, it’s the best seafood in the city, followed by Selwyn’s Seafood Shack in Penclawdd.
Where is Gower Seafood Hut?
The Gower Seafood Hut used to be right on the promenade in Mumbles but because of all the building work being done, the hut has moved to the park just behind where it used to be.
You’ll find it – Southend Gardens, Promenade Terrace, Mumbles, Swansea SA3 4DS.
I’m not sure if they will move back to the original location when the work is completed, but personally, I prefer it in the park because there are a load of tables to sit on, and it’s a chilled spot. I’m betting they preferred the promenade though, as it’s so busy on there, and there was always a massive queue – partly because of the foot traffic.

It’s definitely worth following the Gower Seafood Hut’s Instagram, so you can see what they are serving (they post a lot, so I find it helpful), though they tend to always have the usual tried and tested favourites, including:
- Plaice Goujons
- Crispy Chilli Prawns (which is what I always get)
- Popcorn cockles
- Calamari
The seafood is amazing – but what’s not to slept on are the chips with thyme and garlic mayo. They’re absolutely next-level good.

Beautiful little spot to enjoy fresh seafood by the Welsh coast! A proper haven outside Swansea, this little hut had bags of personality and a beautiful story behind it.
The food was so good, we had calamari and crispy prawns. Do not miss out on the chilli jam, which you can also purchase there! Delicious!!! The batter was light and perfectly seasoned.

Amazing find! Stumbled across this place when going to the playground and the atmosphere, smell and menu choices looked so enticing. Tried the Popcorn Gower cockles and they were amazing! Cooked to perfection. Worth the sneaky bite before going for dinner. If we didn’t already have a reservation for dinner I would have happily had more of the other dishes there.
Bloody brilliant! Fresh and tasty seafood that is treated with care rather than doused in thick batter. Lovely park setting by the sea with a beer house across the road so you can grab a pint and enjoy it all. Thankyou!
