Fendrod Lake, Llansamlet Swansea

Fendrod Lake

If you’re driving around the industrial estate in Llansamlet, Swansea, you may be surprised to find there’s a little bit of an oasis, surrounded by all the grey concrete and cars – Fendrod Lake.

Super popular with fishermen, fitness fanatics and mums with strollers, Fendrod Lake is a great spot to get some fresh air and exercise as it’s just over thirteen acres. I walked it the other day and it took about twenty minutes to do a loop.

Fendrod Lake

There’s no children’s park area, but it does have an outdoor gym which is pretty popular.

There’s also a nice cafe and shop across the road from the park with outdoor seating which is worth a visit. It sells local handmade items, and as you’ll learn, I’m a sucker for all things crafty (and shopping).

Fendrod Lake Parking

Considering parking is an absolute pain in this city, what’s great about Fendrod is that there’s a car park, where you can usually get a spot – which is totally free. That’s a rare thing in Swansea.

But if it is too busy, there’s a big road across from the main road which has a ton of parking and no yellow lines. There’s plenty of parking.

Fishing at Fendrod Lake

Fendrod Lake is a super popular place to fish, including ‘carp to 29lbs, skimmers to bream into double figures, tench to 6lbs, roach to 2lbs together with crucian carp, dace, orfe, perch and rudd. The lake has approx 75 pegs, the vast majority of which are concreted. A small number are also designed for the disabled.‘ according to the council.

If you want to fish at Fendrod Lake or want to know more, the Brynmill and District Angling Club is the place to visit.

Swimming at Fendrod Lake – good idea?

Oh no, no, no. Same with boating. Look, as genuinely beautiful as Fendrod Lake is, especially on a good day, it can feel a bit dirty. That’s a lot to do with the ducks, geese and bother birds patrolling the area, but the rats…

Apparently, in 2020, when people were in lockdown and the park was quiet, it was overrun with rats. To the point they were hanging from the trees. The council had to shut it down for a week to deal with the problem, but let’s be real, as much as it’s better, keep out of the water.
